Pantone Color Of The Year 2021 : What They Mean

Pantone recently announced its Color of the Year 2021 – Illuminating 13-0647 and Ultimate Grey 17-5104.

After a rather struggle-some year, the color giant has revealed its Color of the Year 2021 that hope to spark hope and despair. In the company’s words, its ‘A MARRIAGE OF COLOR CONVEYING A MESSAGE OF STRENGTH AND HOPEFULNESS THAT IS BOTH ENDURING AND UPLIFTING‘.

The 2 colors come from the families of yellow and grey which signify these two coming together to support one another. The darker readings of the ‘Ultimate Grey’ and the warmth of ‘Illuminating’ wasn’t hard to recognise and relate to. They resemble the track pants we’ve put on everyday this year, the cement/vinyl floors of the hospital wards, warm mood lighting in our homes to lift up spirits. The two colors are rock solid and practical while at the same time instilling warmth and comfort. Through this, Pantone has tried to instil a feeling of optimism we have been juxtaposing over our fears this past year while feeling hopeful for the coming year.
